Activity is intense at ABB Robotics in Västerås, Sweden. More than 20 forklift drivers are transporting goods out to the production lines and loading and unloading delivery trucks. To streamline the work as much as possible, all the doors are remotely controlled. ABB Robotics uses Sesam 599 and Software Sesam from Åkerströms.

ABB Robotics in Västerås is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of industrial robots. The company has installed more than 150,000 robots around the world in various industries, including the auto and packaging industries.

Always in place
Jürgen Bussert is freight manager at ABB Robotics. He is pleased with Software Sesam, which the company has used for more than a year.

“These things just have to work—and Software Sesam does,” says Bussert. “The system is user friendly and the range is good.”

ABB Robotics’ forklift computers have Software Sesam installed on them. This means forklift drivers can use a touch screen to open doors and pallet racks, and they close automatically.

“Previously, the transmitter battery could die or someone might lose a transmitter,” says Bussert. “Now everything is in place in the forklift computer and it stays where it is.”

Bussert notes that this is practical and he recommends the system to others using forklift computers and touch screens. In the future, ABB Robotics may use Software Sesam for control in other areas.

“We have some ideas,” says Bussert. “It’s not something we’re doing right now, but I trust that Åkerströms will be able to modify Software Sesam if necessary when the time comes.”
